Music Education Research & Resources

  • Sing

The voice is an instrument that we, as human beings, get to carry around with us every day. Using this instrument is a learned behavior that can be developed. Singing is a learned skill; people can learn how to sing!

  • Play

Whether we use our vocal instruments, play an instrument outside of our bodies, press play on an electronic device, or interact with music informally and playfully, play is a crucial part of music learning.

  • Audiate

Audiation involves the thinking and comprehension of music in the mind. Since all humans are born with music aptitude, each and every human being is a musician! Developing this musical potential through audiation-based practices supports the unique expression of one's musicianship.

“It wasn’t until my undergraduate years as a college music major that I learned to coordinate my singing voice. I am living proof that people CAN learn how to sing and improve their singing accuracy with practice over time. Through my teaching and research, I hope to teach children and adults that we are ALL musicians right now, exactly as we are today.”
